Marche, a taste of Ascoli Piceno

Ascoli Piceno, together with the local guide, you’ll discover the city that many call a book of art history to be consulted in the open air, there is no doubt that it is an extraordinary wealth of monuments and styles dating back to different eras. However, Ascoli is also known as the city of a hundred towers and white travertine. This material embellishes the central Piazza del Popolo, an outdoor room in the historic center, which also houses numerous jewels of local culture such as the Cathedral. You will discover Offida, a picturesque medieval village surrounded by perfectly preserved city walls, dating back to the XII century. Among the numerous cultural monuments of the city, there is certainly the Serpente Aureo Theater, a true jewel of the Baroque age, housed in the Town Hall.

Offida is surrounded by vineyards. Here you can taste the Rosso Piceno Superiore and Offida wines, the youngest DOC wines in the area. The tour continues with a visit to a winery in Ripatransone. The experience includes a guided tour of the vineyards and the cellar, followed by a lunch and tasting of DOC and DOCG wines on the splendid panoramic terrace.

Then, you’ll wear an apron to learn how to make the famous stuffed Ascoli olives, a typical recipe of the area, appreciated and known all over the world. The chef will guide you step by step: you will learn which olives to choose, how to fill them and how to fry them. At the end, you will taste your preparation accompanied by a glass of wine. Before saying goodbye, you will be given the printed recipe to keep as a memento.
